Sixth Form Council
Leadership Opportunities - Sixth Form - Our Student Council
Who Are We?
The Sixth Form Student Council is a group of elected students who are passionate about making a positive difference to our Sixth Form community. We campaigned for our positions because we genuinely care about our student body and wanted the opportunity to represent students, listen to their ideas and help create positive change during our time at Fakenham Academy and Sixth Form.
Our council gives students a voice and provides a link between the student body and staff. We aim to make sure that the students here feel heard, represented and involved in the development of Sixth Form life. Whether it is improving our school community or organising events, we want to make our time in Sixth Form meaningful for ourselves and for those around us.
What Have We Done?
Since being elected, we have already been involved in a range of events, activities and initiatives, including:
-The Sixth Form end of year summer party – bringing students together to celebrate the end of the academic year by throwing a Hawaiian themed afternoon with beach tunes, a picnic, photobooth and of course refreshments!
-The summer fair – a games stool was set up by some council members to raise money through hook-a-duck, guess the sweets in the jar and tin-can-knock-down.
-Termly review forms – each term/half-term we send out a Microsoft form that is centralised around a topic (such as revision) and it gives students the opportunity to share their views, suggest improvements and raise ideas for future development.
-Fakenham community duck race – we designed and created the duck that represented Fakenham Sixth Form in the local Fakenham community annual duck race.
-Easter event – we organised a scavenger-hunt themed activity to celebrate easter.
-Pride month activities – we celebrated diversity, inclusion and individuality within our school community through providing multiple pride themed activities (such as a pride focused assembly and a pride quiz).
These activities are only part of what the Student Council aims to achieve. Alongside events, we want to continue listening to students and using their feedback to identify areas where we can make a genuine difference.
So... What’s Next?
We have lots more planned for the year ahead. Some of our upcoming ideas and projects include:
-Running the shoebox appeal – supporting those in need through a school-wide charitable initiative.
-Year 13 prom Fundraising – helping raise money for our year 13 prom.
-Christmas cinema trip – organising a festive trip for Sixth Form students to celebrate at the end of term.
-More student-led initiatives – continuing to develop ideas based on student feedback and suggestions that come from the Microsoft forms.
We are always looking for new ways to improve Sixth Form life and our plans will continue to develop throughout the year based on what students tell us they want and need.
Your Voice Matters!
The Student Council is ultimately here for the students, by the students. We want to make sure that everyone's ideas, experiences and opinions have a place within our Sixth Form community.
If you have an idea, suggestion or something you think could be improved, speak to a member of the Student Council. We are here to listen, represent you and work together to make positive changes.
