How to support your child's learning and progress (including preparing for exams)
Parents play a crucial role in supporting their children to achieve their best at school. At Fakenham Academy we believe that home and school must work as a team to support the students doing the best they can.
Regular completion of homework helps students to reinforce key knowledge and skills taught in class, develop independent study habits, and build self-discipline and resilience. It also encourages students to take responsibility for their learning and prepares them for the expectations of further education and future employment.
When completed consistently, homework can significantly improve understanding, confidence, and academic outcomes.
Key Stage 3
Key Stage 3 Homework is set in four parts, all of which are set on Mondays on Class Charts:
Guided Study booklet - One double page spread per week. Students are given time in school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to complete some of this so that they understand how to complete the rest of the guided study booklet.
Science Tassomai - Online homework.
Maths Sparx - Online homework
English Bedrock - Online homework – to begin in November.
Key Stage 4
To support you and your child we are committed to making homework clearer and easier to manage for both parents and students. To this end, we publish a homework summary for Key Stage 4 (years 10 and 11) below: Key Stage 4 Homework Overview Document 2026-27
This document outlines what homework is being set in each subject and how often it is set. We hope that this will help families to better understand expectations and support students in planning their time effectively.
Homework Support Sessions
To further support our students, we are pleased to offer Homework Support Sessions after school every Tuesday and Thursday at 3.30pm in L27 each week. These sessions are open to all students and provide a quiet, structured environment where students can receive guidance, ask questions, and complete their homework with staff support. There will also be access to computers to allow for online learning and completion of some coursework tasks. Students who do not complete their homework in full and on time will be directed to these Homework Support Sessions and we will expect them to attend. This will be done via the Class Charts system. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s tutor in the first place.
