Primary Transition
Welcome to Fakenham Academy
Following confirmation of our new Year 7 September 2023 cohort, it is my absolute pleasure to welcome you to the Fakenham Academy family and the start of your five-year journey with us. We are here for you and your child every step of the way! At Fakenham Academy, our vision is to transform students’ lives by preparing them for the university or career pathway of their choice and enable them to contribute to their community. We aim to achieve our mission through our 3 core values, held by staff and students: Kind, Ambitious and Determined.
Transition to Fakenham Academy
Update June 2023
During the past 2 weeks, I have had the pleasure of visiting your children at their primary schools. I only have a few of our smaller feeder schools left to visit on Thursday 22nd June. The aim of these visits is to reintroduce myself to all the students that will be joining us in September. In addition to this, I wanted to give them the opportunity to ask me questions and for me to explain the upcoming events in their transition to us.
I want to outline the upcoming events before the summer holiday in regards to your child’s transition.

Welcome Evening (Year 6 into 7 Transition Parents Evening)
On the evening of Tuesday 27th June, there will be a meeting for parents in the school sports hall at 6.00pm. Traditionally, this has been an evening that is very well attended and one that has a real benefit to a successful start at our school. During the evening there will be presentations by the Senior Leadership Team, Progress Leader (Head of Year) and their form tutor. The information contained in this evening is essential to ensuring you and your child have a clear understanding of the rules and expectations at our school. The presentation will also answer some key questions regarding transition days and the first few days in September. After this meeting has taken place, you may also like to make an appointment to have discussions with other members of staff such as the SENCO. This may not be able to take place during the evening, but a telephone appointment could be scheduled in the days that follow.
Transition Days
The 3 transition days will be a crucial part of your child’s transition to Fakenham Academy and we will be sharing the full plan with you on the Welcome Evening. However, we have had a number of questions regarding these days and I want to share answers to these questions before this evening to aid your planning.
1. Will my child be able to get on the school buses on the 3 transition days?
Yes, we have spoken to the bus companies and outlined our plans for the transition days. They are completely happy for your child to catch the school buses and we will explain routes and timings at the welcome evening. Your child will not need a bus pass to travel to and from Fakenham Academy on these days.
2. What should my child wear on the 3 transition days?
I have asked your children during my visits to their primary to wear their school uniform for their transition days. However, 1 of the days your child will have some PE activities and therefore should wear their primary school PE kit. On the parent’s welcome evening we will outline the exact dress needed on each of the days.

During the last half term of the school year we really want you and your child to feel part of our community and learn about all the amazing things that are happening at their future school. Therefore, we encourage you to take a look at our most recent newsletter and share this with your children, please see the link below:

We will send your child’s Headteacher a copy of this letter to make sure that they are aware of the information that we have shared. I am sure that you will get an update from the school – our primary colleagues are always very supportive of all of the transition activities that take place.
I am confident that your child’s time with us will be happy, filled with many achievements and successes. I will be in contact with you and your children on a regular basis, but please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to getting to know you and your child and encourage an active partnership in the next phase of your child’s education.
